The Wright State women's soccer team (2-5-1, 1-0-0 Horizon League) will return home to continue conference play this Saturday, when the Green Bay Phoenix (2-7-0, 0-1-0 Horizon League) come to Alumni Field.
Raider Round-Up
The Raiders will return to the friendly confines of Alumni Field for the first time since September 2, when they fell to Indiana State 2-0. Horizon League play began for the green and gold last Friday, September 14, when the Raiders traveled to Auburn Hills, Mich. to take on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. In a match that was mostly controlled by the homestanding Golden Grizzlies, the Raiders got a goal against the run of play in the 74th minute from Aaliyah Patten, and goalkeeper Maddie Jewell was able to fend off five Oakland shots on goal to get her first shutout of the season. The duo of Patten and Erin Graefen continue to lead the charge on offense for the Raiders, but head coach Patrick Ferguson is looking for more offensive production from his team, who averages less than a goal per match eight matches into the season.
Scouting Green Bay
While the records of the Raiders and Green Bay are rather similar, the statistics of the two teams differentiate them quite dramatically. Defense has been a shortcoming of the Phoenix this season, who have allowed a staggering 76 shots on goal in their first nine matches. However, Green Bay has scored almost twice the amount of goals that the Raiders have to this point of the season. Freshman midfielder McKayla Kertscher has burst onto the scene as both the leading scorer and assister for the Phoenix (3 G, 2 A). Three separate goalkeepers have seen time for Green Bay this season, allowing 21 goals and making 55 saves.
Coverage
Saturday's 7:00 pm match will be a part of a Raider athletics triple-header, with men's soccer hosting Cleveland State at 2:00 pm and women's volleyball hosting UIC at 4:00 pm. If you are unable to make it out to Alumni Field, the match will be live streamed on ESPN3, and live stats are available at wsuraiders.com.
