The Wright State volleyball team fell at ACC-foe North Carolina State 3-0 Friday afternoon to break it five-match winning streak. The scores of the three-set match were 20-25, 12-25 and 22-25.
Abby Barcus led the Raiders with 11 kills and 10 digs as freshman setter Lainey Stephenson collected seven kills and 19 assists. Jenna Story also had 10 digs while Hannah Colvin finished with three aces.
First Set
The Wolfpack led by eight points at 15-7 but the Raiders crept back to cut the lead to 17-15 with an 8-2 run before an NCSU timeout. At 23-17, WSU notched the next three points before North Carolina State won 25-20. Teddie Sauer led WSU with four kills while Stephenson posted three kills and four assists. Barcus' eight digs led the green and gold, and Colvin had two of the Raiders' three aces.
Second Set
The Raiders kept this one close at 10-10, including an 8-7 lead. The Wolfpack jumped out with a 15-2 run to win 25-12. The Raiders hit .147 as the NC State managed a .606 kill percentage. Barcus had four of WSU's nine kills as Alannah Lemming added three.Â
Third Set
Jumping out to a 3-1 lead, the Raiders kept it close with a tie at 13-13. WSU stayed with the Wolfpack at 19-19 which caused NCSU to call a timeout. The Wolfpack then sealed the set and match win at 25-22. Barcus had six more kills to hit .286 in the set. Stephenson added seven assists and one ace. WSU hit its match-high .206.
Next Match
The Raiders (5-2) will play North Carolina Central at 11 am and Appalachian State at 2 pm Saturday at Campbell University. NC State is now 4-2.
