Wright State
The Raiders, 10-10 and 4-3, have played their last five games on the road, winning three of the five and two straight. Wright State will be searching for its first three-game winning streak of the season and a chance to be over .500 since late November. WSU is coming off an 89-66 win at Cleveland State as Loudon Love collected his season-high 23 points while Bill Wampler pitched in 21 off the bench. Junior Cole Gentry added 14 points.
Several players have fueled the recent success of the Raiders. Wampler, who has been coming off the bench over the last six games, has scored in double digits in five of those contests, shooting 41% from three-point range while scoring an average of 16.5 points. Also with a hot hand, Mark Hughes has scored double figures in seven of the last eight games as he has averaged 12.1 points. Love also settled in at the free throw line on the recent trip as he shot 76.2%, hitting 16 of 21 from the stripe. And, newcomer Malachi Smith collected his career-best 17 points and nine rebounds at Youngstown State to be named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Gentry, in the midst of 35 straight made free throws, is currently second nationally, hitting 59 of 62 from the line at a 95.2% clip. He is averaging 13.8 points per game while Wampler leads the team at 15.1 and Love holds a 14.5 points per game average. Milwaukee leads the overall series 30-29, but WSU has won three of the last five meetings. Milwaukee won both regular-season games last year, but the Raiders won the semi-finals tilt of the Horizon League Tournament last March in Detroit.
Milwaukee
The Panthers, 9-11 and 4-3, also are coming off two straight wins at home over UIC and IUPUI. In the IUPUI win Saturday, Darius Roy led the way with 25 points while DeAndre Abram added 19. In the UIC win, Abram led five scorers in double figures with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Through the first 20 games, Roy leads the Panthers with 16.0 points per game while Abram is second at 12.7 points and tops with 7.6 boards. Vance Johnson is third on the team with 10.1 points per game. Milwaukee was picked to finish eighth this year under second-year head coach Pat Baldwin.
