@WSU_MBB Hosts First Place Norse

Fans are encouraged to wear black friday night!

The second place Wright State men's basketball team will welcome the first place Northern Kentucky Norse to the WSU Nutter Center Friday night for a national-televised game on ESPNU at 9:00 PM eastern.  The game will feature the last two Horizon League's NCAA Tournament teams.  Fans can watch live on ESPNU or listen to Chris Collins and Jim Brown on Big 106.5 FM/iHeart app.  The Raiders are encouraging fans to wear black Friday night for a "Blackout."  Doors open at 7:30 PM.

Wright State
The Raiders, 15-11 and 9-4, are currently riding a three-game winning streak and have won seven of the last eight.  WSU defeated Detroit Mercy last Saturday night 83-60 with four Raiders in double-figure scoring led by Loudon Love with 17 points and eight rebounds as the freshman duo of Skyelar Potter and Malachi Smith each pitched in 14 points off the bench.  Mark Hughes got hot from three as he connected on four from behind the arc.

On the season, Wright State has been led by Love at 15.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game with Bill Wampler close behind at 14.4 points and Cole Gentry at 12.7 points.  The Raiders are 11-2 overall and 5-1 in league games at home and haven't lost at the Nutter Center since the overtime slip to UIC on Dec. 28.  Gentry is currently number one nationally in free throw percentage at 94.7% (72-76) with the team sits 49th overall.  Within the league, Love is currently 10th in scoring and third in rebounding while, in league games only, the Raiders are tops in defense, holding their opponents to just 68.5 points per game.  In the 13 home games this year, the Raiders have outscored their opponents 77.2-64.0 and outrebounded them 39.0-32.5.

In the overall series, the Raiders lead 23-11 with the Norse winning 68-64 at NKU on Jan. 11. In that game, there were 10 ties and seven lead changes as the Raiders led by six in the second half and NKU's largest lead was only eight.  Love led the way for WSU with 16 points and six rebounds while Hughes chipped in 14 points and six boards.  The Raiders won both meetings last year, 69-67 at home, and 84-81 at Northern.

Northern Kentucky
The Norse, 20-6 and 10-3, hold a 5-6 mark away from home, including 3-3 in league games.  NKU is coming off a pair of wins over Detroit Mercy (97-65) and Oakland (79-64)  at home last weekend.  Drew McDonald, the current Horizon League Player of the Week, averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in the two games last week.  Jalen Tate added 19 points.

For the season, McDonald is averaging 19.0 points and 9.9 rebounds while Tyler Sharpe holds a 14.3 average.  McDonald, who recently collected his 1,000th career rebound, also leads the League in rebounding and ranks 19th nationally.
