@WSU_SB Falls in Liberty Invitational Opener
2/21/2019 10:22:00 PM | Softball
The Raiders ended up on the wrong side of a 10-2 game against the host Liberty Flames to open the Liberty Invitational. The Flames, winners of 49 games last season, used a solid offensive performance to close out the game in five innings. Wright State is scheduled for a Friday doubleheader against Princeton at 12:00 PM and Bucknell at 2:00 PM.
1st Inning
The Raiders jumped out to a quick start after Madison Whitaker and Madison Nunez both singled with one out and Brianna Hutchinson doubled to score them both. Unfortunately, the Raiders couldn't manage to score another run after the first. In the home half of the first, Liberty tied the game with two runs of their own.
2nd Inning
Wright State went in order, and a lead-off triple against Raider starter Olivia Otani came around to score for the Flames.
4th Inning
Liberty did most of their damage in the 5-run 4th inning. Lexie Hilling got touched up for four earned runs and Makenna Durieux finally closed out the frame for the Raiders. The game ended after the top of the 5th as Wright State couldn't cut into the 8-run lead. Despite the disappointing outcome, the Raider defense showed improvement and did not surrender a single error in the loss.Â
