In the first Horizon League match of the season, the Wright State women's tennis team downed the Northern Kentucky Norse 5-2 on Saturday night, The win moves the Raiders' record to 9-10 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.Â
The Raiders gained an early one-point lead against the Norse after all three doubles teams defeated their opponents. Second pairing Luisa Pelayo and Grace Whitney were the first pair on the board with a dominating 6-1 win against Maria Koo and Elizabeth Rozin. First pair Haily Morgan and Madison Riley secured the doubles point for the Raiders with a 6-3 win against Taylor Cuthbertson and Margita Sunjic. Before going unfinished on court three, Jillian Milano and Andreea Craciun were leading their opponents 5-3.Â
On the singles courts, Andreea Craciun put up a good fight against the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Margita Sunjic but fell 6-4, 6-2. Haily Morgan fell in straight sets to Maria Koo 6-4, 6-2. After dropping two matches at the top of the order, the depth of the Raiders took over to secure the win. On courts three through six, the Raiders each won their matches in straight sets for the win against the Norse. Luisa Pelayo won 6-1, 6-2 against Taylor Cuthberston, Madison Riley won 6-0, 6-1 against Elizabeth Rosin, Jillian Milani defeated Katja Dijanezavic 6-2, 6-2 on Court Five, with Grace Whitney rounding out the order with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Hannah Watton.Â

The Raiders are set to play three matches next week at home. On Saturday, Wright State will host IUPUI in the morning and on Sunday will welcome UIC in the morning before returning to the courts late in the afternoon to face Dayton.Â
