@WSU_SB Looks to Build Momentum Against Oakland

The Wright State softball team returns home this weekend after winning a big series against Youngstown State. The Raiders will face the Oakland Grizzlies, who sit just a half game behind Wright State in the Horizon League standings. The two teams will square off Saturday at 3 pm and, weather permitting, wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 am.

Wright State Raiders (19-26, 5-10 HL)
Raidyn Johnson put together an impressive performance in the 14-6 Wright State victory over Youngstown State on Saturday. Johnson went 3 for 4 at the plate while recording four RBI to improve her team-leading batting average to .350 overall and .432 in conference). Those numbers rank Johnson seventh in the Horizon League for average as well as sixth with 12 RBIs in conference games. Makenna Durieux has put together several strong starts in the circle in the past two weeks. Durieux has allowed just four runs in her last four appearances spanning 17.1 innings and has struck out 25 batters and won three games in that time. As a team, the Raiders have won three of their last four games.

Wright State leads the all-time series 13-6. In 2018, the Raiders won both regular season matchups in extra innings, but saw their season end against the Grizzlies in the Horizon League tournament.

Oakland Grizzlies (11-24, 4-10 HL)
Oakland heads into another Horizon League series after falling to the IUPUI Jaguars in their last series. The Jaguars won the first two matchups and nearly swept the Grizzlies but for a 10-9 nine-inning victory by Oakland. Jamie Squires has posted impressive offensive numbers for Oakland, particularly in conference play. Squires leads her team in RBI with 29 along with a .426 average and three home runs in Horizon League contests. Lauryn Debono and Chelsea Wiggins have picked up the majority of the starts in the circle, each recording 65.1 innings. The team as a whole has given up nearly six earned runs a game
