Wright State Raiders (21-31, 8-13 HL)
Â
The Raiders will look to repeat their success at Youngstown State two weeks ago. At the time, the Penguins were at the top of the Horizon League standings until the Raiders posted impressive 14-6 and 4-2 victories. More recently, Wright State dropped a series against Cleveland State, losing two games by a combined three runs.
Â
Olivia Otani starred in the win over the Vikings on Saturday. The freshman tossed a complete game and allowed just two hits and a run in just 77 pitches while the Raider offense totaled 11 hits and five runs. Madison Nunez recorded two of those hits and tallied six hits on the week along with two runs, a home run, and four RBI.
Â
UIC Flames (28-20, 18-3 HL)
Â
The Flames enter the final weekend as the hottest team in the conference led by former Wright State coach Lynn Curylo. UIC will bring their eight game win streak to WSU Softball Field and have won 12 of their last 13 matchups including four run-rule victories. UIC has already clinched the regular season championship in the Horizon League and will host the conference tournament starting on Wednesday, May 8.
Â
UIC boasts an impressive team batting average of .325, the only average above .300 in the league. The offense has been led by Lexi Watts, Kayla Wedl, and Skylee James who have all hit .443 or better on the year while starting in each of the 48 games. Wedl has totaled a league-leading 14 home runs and 56 RBI. In the circle, Allie Trudeau has handled most of the pitching responsibilities for the Flames, posting a 4.44 ERA and a 12-9 record in 129.1 innings.
Â
UIC has dominated the overall series with Wright State, leading 65-23. Last season, the Raiders narrowly lost the regular-season series in the final game by a score of 3-2 in 9 innings but beat the Flames 2-1 in the Horizon League tournament.
