Wright State (15-24) looks to end a six-game losing streak against the Dayton Flyers (18-18) in a Wednesday doubleheader. The first pitch from WSU Softball Field is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
The Raiders return home after being swept by IUPUI and dropping a game to Toledo on Monday by a single run. Raidyn Johnson has been one of the top contributors offensively in recent weeks for Wright State. The sophomore put together a 7 for 18 (.389) week at the plate while adding a pair of doubles, four RBI, and three runs. In league play, Johnson boasts a .464 average with an impressive .531 on-base percentage. Madison Hartman and Rebekah Lenos have played in 38 of the 39 games and have each contributed a team-leading 35 hits. In the leadoff spot, Lenos has also drawn 15 walks and stolen 6 bases. In the circle, Olivia Otani is nearing 100 innings pitched on the season in 21 starts and 25 total apperances.Â
Dayton has started the Atlantic 10 schedule off strong with a 6-3 record in conference. The Flyers dropped the series at Fordham over the weekend which snapped a five-game winning streak. Dayton's speed has caused opponents headaches all season long. Lisa Tassi and Kyle Davidson not only lead the team in batting average but have swiped 15 and 19 bases respectively. Abby Ehrenborg has contributed 34 RBI along with seven homers and six doubles. In the circle, Jessica Gilliam and Jessica Weaver have handled the majority of pitching duties for the Flyers. Gilliam leads Dayton in wins (8), saves (4), innings pitched (94.1), and strikeouts (71).
Wright State faced Dayton in their home opener on March 20 and won the matchup 7-5. After the Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second, the Flyers clawed their way back with a three-run homer in the third and two more runs in the fourth to cut the Wright State lead to one. The Raiders added a key insurance run in the sixth with a Meredith Keel RBI single, her second of the game. Jordyn Poulson went a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of runs and Maddux Hughes picked up the win.
