Wright State University set a school record with four programs earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards for multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that rank among the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sports, the NCAA announced Wednesday. This comes on the heels of our previous record when three programs were recognized last year.
Wright State baseball, women's cross country, women's tennis and women's volleyball all earned the honor for the four-year period ending in 2017-18. This marks the third consecutive year that both the women's cross country and women's volleyball teams have been recognized as well as the second consecutive year for women's tennis. This is the first public recognition award for the baseball program.
"This type of academic success and retention is what we are striving to achieve in our program and back-to-back record setting years is certainly something to celebrate," Wright State University Director of Athletics Bob Grant said. "I'm extremely proud of the hard work by our student-athletes and the support provided by our coaches and administrative staff. This recognition also validates that our PSA mission (people, student, athlete) is working and that we have some of the highest achieving students on campus."
APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. It measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent multiyear rates are based on the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
The NCAA will release the latest full APR data on Wednesday, May 8.
