
Raiders prevail in five sets for 10th straight win

The Wright State volleyball team battled for five sets against tournament host Ball State Saturday afternoon before claiming its 10th consecutive win. The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they look for another victory against Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m. to close out the weekend.

The Raiders were led by Celia Powers' double-double as she tallied 21 digs and 18 kills. Teddie Sauer added 17 kills, recording a .395 hitting percentage behind only two errors off 38 attempts. Freshman Megan Alders racked up a career-high 12 kills off 45 attempts. Wright State led the match in three categories, having 65 kills, 11 blocks and 114 digs. Jenna Story led the match with 38 digs, Powers followed with 21 and Lainey Stephenson picked up 18 digs.

The Raiders jumped out to a lead before the Cardinals tied things up at 10-10. The score went point-for-point until Powers had two kills back-to-back for Wright State to take a two-point advantage. A kill from Sauer pushed the Raiders into the red zone while Ball State only trailed by two points at 20-18. Ball State tied the score at 22-22 before going on to win the set 25-22.

Wright State started out strong offensively with two kills from Powers and Nyssa Baker. The Raiders lead extended to 5-1 before Ball State answered to tie the score at 8-8. Ball State took the lead at 13-10 but the Raiders answered offensively to tie the game again at 14-14. Alders and Sauer knocked down back-to-back kills to give the Raiders 20 points, leading Ball State by five. A kill from Stephenson gave the Raiders set point, and a service error from the Cardinals secured Wright State's win, 25-20.

The score went back and forth to start before Wright State took the lead at 10-9 and went on a seven-point run. The Raiders capitalized on errors and kept the lead throughout the set. Alders knocked down a kill for point 20 for the Raiders, who then went on a three-point run to reach 23-14. Wright State won the set by 10 points with a score of 25-15.

Ball State opened with a seven-point run before Powers knocked down a kill for Wright State's first point. The Cardinals went on a long run as the Raiders struggled offensively. Wright State was able to string a five-point run along, but were still down by six at 15-9. The Cardinals didn't back down as they went on to win the set 25-20.

The two teams went point-for-point to begin the set, but the Raiders took the lead at 6-5 and then went on a four-point run. Sauer and Gibson added kills to extend the Raiders lead. The teams exchanged kills but Wright State had a strong lead over Ball State at 13-9. Sauer knocked down match point to give the Raiders the 15-12 win.
