DAYTON – The Wright State men's and women's cross country teams host the Wild Bill Cross Country Fest on Friday afternoon at Fairborn Community Park in their final tune-ups before next week's Horizon League Championships.
Â
The men's race will go off first at 4 p.m., followed by the women's race at 4:45 p.m. In a unique setup, there will be two different distances covered within each of the races. The men's race will have roughly half the field racing a 5k distance and the other half covering 8k distance. The women's race will see most run a 5k race, while a few will race at 6k distance.
Â
The Raiders are coming off strong efforts last Saturday at the Falcon Invite hosted by Bowling Green despite muddy course conditions. The Wright State men finished second overall in the 8000m race behind three Raiders tallying individual finishes inside the top 10, paced by Jacob Poling's third place finish (26:18.15), while teammate Alex McCarty was just behind in fourth with his time of 26:19.78. Tayton Hess finished up the top finishers with his ninth place showing (26:46.04). n the women's 5000m race, Wright State finished fifth behind a pair of top 15 finishes. The Raiders were led by Abigail Halsey, who finished second with her time of 22:37.21, while Emma Shigley (23:46.02) finished 13th overall.
Â
Following Friday's races, Wright State will get set for the 2021 Horizon League Championships, which will be run at the Northview Church Course in Carmel, Indiana. The Raiders got a preview of the course back in mid-September, turning in a pair of fifth-place finishes while Halsey was fifth overall in the women's race. The Horizon League Championship was also held on the site back in the spring, with Halsey finishing sixth overall.
