DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team tallied its fourth straight sweep on Saturday afternoon with a three-set victory over visiting Purdue Fort Wayne inside McLin Gymnasium.
Â
The Raiders' four consecutive wins matches their longest streak of the season, as Wright State looks to keep the momentum going next weekend as the five match homestand wraps up with visits from Cleveland State on Friday night and Oakland next Saturday.
Â
Wright State (12-6, 4-2 HL) took the opening set 25-16 over Fort Wayne (4-17, 2-6 HL) to get the afternoon started before wrapping up the sweep with back-to-back 25-21 set scores.
Â
Megan Alders and Celia Powers each finished with double-digit kills to pace the Raider offense, with Alders recording a match-high 12 and Powers adding 11 kills of her own to go along with a pair of blocks and a service ace. Nyssa Baker added eight kills and four blocks to her final tally, while Callie Martin had six kills and added 12 digs. Lainey Stephenson passed out 35 of Wright State's 45 assists, while Jenna Story (18), Stephenson (14) and Ellee Ruskaup (10) joined Martin with double-digit digs.
Â
The Raiders scored five of the first seven points of the afternoon before an 11-1 run gave them firm control of the opening set that they closed out with a three-point spurt. In the second set, Wright State used two separate three-point runs to gain some distance, but Fort Wayne responded with a four-point run of its own to pull to within two points at 18-16. The Raiders answered with a 6-2 scoring run to close the second set. The final set was similar to the second set with both sides trading two- and three-point spurts before Fort Wayne took a 14-12 lead behind a five-point run. Wright State responded by tallying six of the next seven points, including a 5-0 run of its own, to regain the lead on the way to closing out the afternoon with three of the final four points.
