Volleyball closes regular season with a Saturday afternoon road win

CLEVELAND, OH – The Wright State volleyball team closed out the regular season with a four-set win on Saturday afternoon over Cleveland State, sending the Raiders into the postseason riding a six-match winning streak.

The 2021 Horizon League Championship will be hosted by the regular season champion and the bracket will be announced following the conclusion of the regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, Wright State (22-7, 14-3 HL) dropped the opening set, 25-20, before rolling off three straight set wins. The Raiders tied the match with a 25-14 second set win before a pair of close sets – 25-23 and 25-21 – closed the afternoon out.

The Raiders finished the afternoon hitting .280 as a team, including a match-best .462 mark in the second set, while holding Cleveland State to a .142 team hitting percentage.

Megan Alders and Nyssa Baker paced the Wright State attack with 14 kills each, while Sam Ott was the third Raider with double-digit kills as she finished with 11 of her own. Baker, Taylor Bransfield and Callie Martin each recorded four blocks at the net, while Martin added a match-high 21 digs. Lainey Stephenson passed out 50 of the Raiders' 54 assists, while she added 11 digs. Jenna Story recorded 15 digs of her own as the trio of Martin, Stephenson and Story accounted for 63 percent of Wright State's digs.

Wright State is set to play in the Horizon League Championship for the fourth straight season as one of the League's top six seeds. The Raiders won the HL regular season in 2019 before earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, then added the HL regular season and tournament titles and a second-straight NCAA bid this spring.
