DAYTON/INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League released its 2021 Men's Soccer All-Academic Team on Tuesday afternoon, recognizing student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom. Wright State's Alex Hummel was among the 12 student-athletes who were honored in balloting by the League's faculty athletics representatives.
Â
Working on his Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering, Hummel has appeared and started all 15 games this season to date, recording 1,351 total minutes as a defender on the Raider backline. He has appeared in 65 career matches for Wright State, earning 45 starts, while recording five goals on 18 career shots as a defender. Hummel's work in the classroom has earned him a spot on the Wright State University Dean's List in all of his semesters at Wright State and has been named to the Horizon League academic honor roll six times (Fall 2018-Spring 2021).
 Â
The All-Academic and Honorable Mention Teams are comprised of student-athletes from nine out of eleven institutions that sponsor the sport of men's soccer. Cleveland State and Milwaukee lead the way with two representatives on the All-Academic Team and one honorable mention. Oakland had two All-Academic Team members, while Detroit Mercy, Purdue Fort Wayne and RMU all placed one student-athlete on the All-Academic Team and one on the Honorable Mention Team. IUPUI, UIC and Wright State round out the All-Academic Team with one student-athlete each.
Â
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention team is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
