DETROIT – The Wright State men's soccer team dropped a tough, 1-0 decision on the road Wednesday afternoon to Detroit Mercy in the Horizon League regular season finale.
The loss left the Raiders (5-10-1, 4-5-1 HL) on the outside of the postseason picture, ending the season out of the six-team bracket in the Horizon. Wright State finished the regular season with 13 points, tied for the sixth and final spot with Robert Morris, but RMU won the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to a victory over the Raiders back in early October.
On Wednesday, Wright State and Detroit Mercy (5-6-5, 4-3-3 HL) were scoreless at the half before Matthew Andres scored what turned out to be the only goal of the afternoon in the 57th minute off an assist from Demetri Pliakos.
Detroit Mercy outshot the Raiders 14-8, putting five shots on goal while Wright State had three such attempts. Reece Allbaugh's three shots paced the Raider offense while five other players had one shot each. Samory Powder ended the afternoon with a match-leading four shots for Detroit Mercy. Wright State keeper Sebastian Jimenez finished with three saves, while Detroit Mercy keeper Jonathan Kliewer had three saves of his own.
