The Raiders closed out the 2021 calendar year with an 80-75 victory over Milwaukee last Thursday night behind double-digit scoring nights from four players led by Tanner Holden. Holden notched 22 points, 13 of which came in the second half, while shooting 7-of-18 from the floor and connecting on eight of his 12 free throw attempts. Trey Calvin added 14 points, while Grant Basile turned in 12 points and seven rebounds, along with three blocks. Tim Finke was the final Raider in double-digits as he finished with 11 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Wright State rang in the new year with a bang Saturday afternoon thanks to Calvin's game-winner over Green Bay with 20 seconds remaining. Tied coming down the stretch, Calvin hit the three-pointer from dead on after he faked his Green Bay defender out of his shoe. On the other end, the Raider defense locked down and forced a pair of contested, off target attempts to close out the win. Holden tallied a game-high 22 points on the way to his first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Basile turned in an 18-point effort while Calvin scored nine of his 13 points in the second half and Tim Finke finished with 10 points while adding four rebounds.
The Raiders (6-7, 3-1 Horizon) begin this week with a Thursday night meeting with UIC, who comes into the game at 4-7 overall and 0-2 in League play. The Flames have not played since December 19. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from the Nutter Center. Wright State then welcomes IUPUI to town on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. matinee contest to close the homestand, as the Jaguars begin the week 1-10 (0-2 HL) and have a Thursday meeting at NKU before taking on the Raiders on Saturday.
