DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven straight on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders swept visiting Green Bay to become the final unbeaten team in Horizon League play.
Wright State (12-3, 4-0 Horizon) now has a short turnaround before a busy week, as the Raiders have three road contests next week, beginning at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday before visiting Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI next weekend.
The Raiders played three close sets against Green Bay (14-6, 5-1 Horizon), taking the opening set 25-20 before an electric 28-26 second set and closing the afternoon with a 25-22 third set win.
Wright State was paced by double-doubles from Callie Martin and Sam Ott, with Ott collecting a match-high 13 kills to go along with 13 digs and Martin tallying 10 kills and 12 digs. Jenny Morey recorded two of the Raiders' five service aces while adding five digs, while Jenna Story had an afternoon-best 19 digs and Lainey Stephenson passed out 43 of Wright State's 48 assists.
SET ONE
Neither side was able to grab a firm advantage in the opening set, with the largest margin up to 20 points only three, done a trio of times by the Raiders. From there, Wright State closed the set with five of the final seven points behind kills from Martin and Ott and three errors from the visitors to take the early lead.
SET TWO
A set of runs by both sides, Green Bay had a three- and four-point stretch to push out to a 13-7 advantage before the Raiders used a 7-1 run thanks to six Green Bay errors to tie the set at 14-all. A 5-0 run from the visitors again gave them the advantage, with Green Bay eventually to set point at 24-21 before Wright State rolled off three consecutive points thanks to a pair of kills from Martin to extend the set. After a Green Bay kill put them on the edge again, the Raiders closed the set with four of the next five points to take the two-set lead.
SET THREE
Back-and-forth early, Green Bay used a 6-0 run to take a 10-7 advantage. Wright State rallied to knot the score and take the lead thanks to a 10-3 run to push to 20-16, but the visitors responded with five of the next six points to again tie the score at 21. From there, the Raiders closed the afternoon with four of the final five points thanks to kills from Bransfield and Ott and a pair of Green Bay errors.
