INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON — Wright State senior Lainey Stephenson has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Wednesday.
Â
Stephenson led Wright State to a pair of home sweeps as they wrapped up the first half of Horizon League play with an undefeated 9-0 League mark and carrying a 12-match winning streak overall. In the sweeps over Robert Morris and Youngstown, Stephenson passed out 61 total assists to lead a Raider attack that hit .318 as a group over the six sets.
Â
Stephenson evenly distributed her assists, with 30 on Thursday night against RMU and 31 on Friday versus Youngstown State as she added six blocks, five kills and 16 total digs, including 10 against Youngstown as she tallied her 10th double-double of the season. Her 10.69 assists/set average is No. 20 nationally and leads the Horizon League by nearly an assist per set, while she sits second in the League in total assists despite playing 14 less sets than the HL leader.
Â
Stephenson begins the week with 4,646 career assists, third all-time in Wright State history and just 11 shy of Lisa Dearden, who played for the Raiders from 1993-96 and currently sits in second place. Stephenson is 398 assists away from becoming Wright State's all-time assists leader, which remains in play based off her yearly season averages throughout her career.
