DAYTON – The Wright State bowling team captured the team title at the Raider Classic on Sunday, giving the Raiders their first tournament victory as an NCAA program.
Â
Wright State had two 'teams' in the tournament, with the Raider groups capturing both the 'varsity' and 'junior varsity' team titles.
Â
"The team performed very well. We had bowled on a similar pattern before and practiced on it, so we knew what to expect as the lanes transitioned," head coach Jeff Fleck said. "We had a plan to use the Baker segment on Sunday to get to our best five players on that day for the finals. Everyone stepped up and executed. The crowd was very supportive, so it was a great team and family experience. It feels unbelievable that with such a young team we have already won a tournament in our first year as NCAA program. It's a credit to all the hard work by the players and coaches and the support of the parents and the athletic department."Â
 Â
Saturday, both Raider teams bowled five regular games, with the 'varsity' group finished with a total pinfall count of 4520 and sat in second place after day one action with Trine ahead of them.  Zoe Paxhia-Poppaw finished second overall on the way to making the all-tournament team. The 'junior varsity' had a total pinfall count of 4301 and led after the first day's action, with the JV all-tournament team comprised of all Raider bowlers - Phoenix Perry, Abigal Monte, Addie Buckenroth, Anna Johns and Paige Patterson.
 Â
Sunday saw the 16 baker games contested, with the 'varsity' group finishing with a total baker pinfall count of 2635 for a combined pinfall count of 7155 over the two days. The 'junior varsity' group had a total baker pinfall count of 2509 and a combined pinfall count of 6810.Â
