Raider Volleyball unveils 2022 schedule

DAYTON — The Wright State volleyball program and first year head coach Travers Green released its 2022 schedule on Friday, a schedule that includes nine conference matchups inside McLin Gymnasium and a trio of matches as part of the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational in September.

The Raiders will make the short trip to Miami (OH) for their lone exhibition match ahead of the regular season, when they will open with three-straight tournament weekends on the road at hosts Marshall, Western Michigan and Iowa State. Wright State kicks off its home slate with the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational on September 15 and 17 with a trio of matches, including a pair with crosstown foe Dayton.

Horizon League play begins on September 23 and 24 as the Raiders go on the road to take on Cleveland State and Oakland before the home League schedule begins a week later against Milwaukee (Sept. 30) and Green Bay (Oct. 1). Wright State's longest road trip of the year comes October 4, 7 and 8, beginning with a midweek trek to Northern Kentucky before weekend visits to Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI.

The longest homestand of the year runs back-to-back weekends in mid-October as the Raiders welcome Robert Morris and Youngstown State (Oct. 13 and 14) to McLin before following up hosting duties the next week with Oakland and Cleveland State (Oct. 21 and 22) as the second round of Horizon League play begins. Visits to Green Bay and Milwaukee (Oct. 28 and 29) close October before the final three home matches of the regular season get November underway as Northern Kentucky (Nov. 1), IUPUI (Nov. 4) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Nov. 5) come calling. Wright State closes the regular season with a pair of matches at Robert Morris and Youngstown State (Nov. 11 and 12).

The Horizon League Championship will take place November 18-20 at the site of the regular season champion. The Raiders and McLin Gymnasium took on hosting duties for both the 2019 and Spring 2021 championships.

Last fall, the Raiders went 23-8 overall and 14-3 in the Horizon League under Allie Matters, who exited the program in March. Green was hired as the eighth head coach in program history in April, and inherits a squad that had four Horizon League honors, led by Jenna Story's third consecutive HL Defensive Player of the Year honor. Returners Callie Martin and Lainey Stephenson were each named to the Horizon League second team, along with the graduated Nyssa Baker.

Miami (OH) (Aug. 20, Oxford, OH; exhibition)
- Miami (OH) finished the 2021 season 7-21 overall with a 5-13 mark in MAC play. This will be the second-straight season the Raiders and RedHawks will meet in an exhibition tune up after Wright State had hosting duties last fall. The Raiders lead the all-time series 24-14 against the RedHawks, with the first meeting coming in 1976. The last regular season meeting came during the 2015 season.

South Carolina State (Aug. 26, Huntington, WV; season opener)
- South Carolina State is coming off an 0-24 season in 2021 and has not won a match since September 28, 2018, a span of 73 contests. Dawn Barnes begins her second season as head coach in 2022 as the Raiders and Bulldogs meet for the first time in program history.

Evansville (Aug. 26, Huntington, WV)
- Evansville finished 2021 with a 21-12 overall mark and a 9-9 record in Missouri Valley play, appearing in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship and winning a pair of matches before falling in the quarterfinals. The Raiders hold an 8-1 lead in the all-time series, with the first meeting coming in 1981 and the most recent coming in tournament action in August 2015.

Marshall (Aug. 26, Huntington, WV)
- The Thundering Herd finished last season 9-16 overall with a 5-7 CUSA record. The Raiders defeated Marshall in four sets last fall inside McLin Gym as part of the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational and lead the all-time series 10-4 entering the 2022 matchup.

Western Michigan Tournament
North Dakota (Sept. 2, Kalamazoo, MI)
- North Dakota finished 2021 with a 1-29 overall mark and an 0-18 Summit League record, with its lone win coming the opening weekend against Seton Hall. North Dakota was also swept by HL foe Youngstown State and fell in five sets to Green Bay in early tournament action last season. This will be the first-ever meeting between Wright State and North Dakota.

Western Michigan (Sept. 2, Kalamazoo, MI)
- Western Michigan is coming off a 19-12 season with an 11-7 record in MAC play, and will meet the Raiders for the second straight season after the teams met in Lansing, MI last fall. Wright State and Western Michigan have met six times previously, but only once before in Kalamazoo (Sept. 2002).

Indiana State (Sept. 3, Kalamazoo, MI)
- Indiana State was 18-13 last season with a 9-9 record in Missouri Valley action. The Raiders are 11-6 all-time against the Sycamores, with the last meeting coming in the Wright State Invitational in September 2019, while the first matchup came back in 1975.

Iowa (Sept. 9, Ames, IA)
- Iowa went 6-24 overall last season with a 4-16 mark in Big Ten play. The Raiders and Hawkeyes have met three times previously, in 1993, 2004 and 2017, with the 1993 meeting taking place at Iowa in tournament action.

Drake (Sept. 9, Ames, IA)
- Drake finished the 2021 season with an 11-15 overall record and a 6-12 mark in Missouri Valley action, grabbing a September win over HL foe Green Bay. This will mark the first-ever meeting between the Raiders and Bulldogs.

Iowa State (Sept. 9, Ames, IA)
- A season ago, Iowa State went 16-12 overall with an 8-8 mark in Big 12 action, falling in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first time that the Raiders and Cyclones meet in program history.

Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational
Dayton (Sept. 15 and 17, McLin Gym)
- Dayton finished 2021 with a 26-6 overall record and a 16-0 mark in A-10 play, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Raiders and Flyers have met 58 times previously, including back-to-back five-set thrillers, inside McLin Gym in February 2021 and a Raider comeback win last fall at Frericks Center. Wright State holds a 28-31 all-time record in the series that dates back to 1973.

Wichita State (Sept. 17, McLin Gym)
- Wichita State finished 19-10 overall with a 13-7 mark in The American last fall. The Raiders and Shockers have never previously met, and Wichita State's most recent encounter with a Horizon League opponent was IUPUI in 2017.

Cleveland State (Sept. 23, Cleveland, OH / Oct. 22, McLin Gym)
- Cleveland State was 8-20 overall with a 6-11 mark in Horizon League play last season. The Raiders won both meetings last fall and have won six straight overall in the series while holding a 39-37 series lead all-time.

Oakland (Sept. 24, Rochester, MI / Oct. 21, McLin Gym)
- Oakland finished 2021 with a 15-15 overall record and a 9-9 mark in Horizon League play. The Raiders won both meetings last fall and have won six in a row in the series and lead the all-time series 16-12.

Milwaukee (Sept. 30, McLin Gym / Oct. 29, Milwaukee, WI)
- Milwaukee was 22-9 overall in 2021, with a 16-2 mark in HL play. Wright State and Milwaukee split the two meetings last fall with each winning on its home court, as the Raiders have won four of the last five meetings overall.

Green Bay (Oct. 1, McLin Gym / Oct. 28, Green Bay, WI)
- Green Bay was 15-16 overall and 10-8 in the Horizon last year, with the Raiders winning both meetings. Wright State leads the all-time series 35-31 and has won the last five meetings.

Northern Kentucky (Oct. 4, Highland Heights, KY / Nov. 1, McLin Gym)
- Northern Kentucky was 20-8 overall and had a 15-2 Horizon League record last fall. The Raiders and Norse both tallied five-set road wins during the regular season before a third five-setter in the Horizon League Championship semifinals last November. The teams have battled over the last four seasons, with the Raiders holding a slight 6-5 advantage in recent history.

Purdue Fort Wayne (Oct. 7, Fort Wayne, IN / Nov. 5, McLin Gym)
- Purdue Fort Wayne finished with an 8-23 overall record and a 6-12 HL mark last fall. Wright State has won all three meetings since the Mastodons became League members and the Raiders hold a 13-10 all-time advantage and have won the last five matchups dating back to the final non-conference encounters.

IUPUI (Oct. 8, Indianapolis, IN / Nov. 4, McLin Gym)
- IUPUI finished 2021 with a 5-24 overall record and 3-15 mark in Horizon League play. The Raiders won both meetings last fall and have won eight in a row in the series dating back to 2018 and hold a 13-8 all-time series lead.

Robert Morris (Oct. 13, McLin Gym / Nov. 11, Moon Township, PA)
- Robert Morris finished with a 9-21 overall record with a 2-16 mark in League play in 2021. Wright State swept lone matchup last fall and has now won all six matchups all-time, including the first three meetings as Horizon League foes.

Youngstown State (Oct. 14, McLin Gym / Nov. 12, Youngstown, OH)
- Youngstown State was 6-23 overall and 3-15 in HL play last fall, with the Raiders sweeping the lone matchup back in early October. Wright State leads the all-time series 39-12 with the first meeting coming all the way back in 1977.
