Women’s Basketball ties school record in comeback win over Detroit Mercy

DETROIT — The Wright State women's basketball program tied a single-game school record with 15 3-pointers on its way to an 82-69 comeback win over Detroit Mercy on Friday night at Calihan Hall.
Kacee Baumhower helped the Raiders (2-15, 1-6 HL) to their first Horizon League victory of the season with a career-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a 5-of-6 clip on 3-pointers to go along with eight rebounds and four assists. Bryce Nixon poured in 18 points on a career-best six threes, while Emily Chapman scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a trio of makes from deep. Lauren Scott and Makiya Miller added six points apiece off the bench.
Wright State turned 15 UDM turnovers into 22 points, collecting eight steals in the process. Baumhower and Miller paced the defensive effort with three steals. Rachel Loobie recorded eight of the Raiders' 30 total rebounds, including four on the offensive end, in just three minutes of action.
WSU faced a 39-31 halftime deficit after shooting 40 percent (12-of-30) overall while allowing the Titans (3-13, 1-6 HL) to a 51.4% (18-of-35) shooting mark and a 24-to-12 edge in rebounding.
The Raiders raced out to a 16-3 run coming out of the break to go up 47-42 with 5:33 left in the third quarter. WSU pushed its lead to 56-49 by the end of the quarter, thanks to 10 points by Baumhower and six points on a pair of threes by Nixon.
Detroit Mercy kept its deficit within single digits, trailing 67-60 with 5:25 to go in the fourth quarter. However, the Raiders responded with a 10-2 run to get ahead 77-62 at the 2:42 minute mark, putting the game out of reach.
The second-half comeback was sparked by an 11-of-14 mark on 3-pointers. Nixon netted five of her six threes in the half, while Baumhower and Chapman both went a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. In total, WSU outscored UDM 51-30 in the final 20 minutes of action.
The Raiders will continue their road trip against Oakland on Sunday, January 15, at 2 p.m.
