Back-to-Back - Raiders capture second-straight #HLVB title

DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team is headed back to the NCAA Championship following its second-straight Horizon League Championship, as the Raiders swept Green Bay in the tournament final Sunday afternoon inside McLin Gymnasium to again punch their ticket to the NCAAs.

Wright State (21-10) has now captured three of the last four Horizon League tournament titles to go along with four HL regular season titles since 2019. The Raiders head back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history, with each appearance coming since the 2019 season.

The Raiders will find out their NCAA destination when the 2023 bracket is announced during the selection show next Sunday, November 26 at 6 p.m. live on ESPN.

Fifth-year senior setter Katie Meyer was named Horizon League tournament MVP after passing out 63 assists – 11.33 assists per set – in Wright State's two sweeps as the Raiders hit .359 as a group in the tournament, while HL Player of the Year Callie Martin and Sam Ott were also named to the all-tournament team. Martin finished the six sets with 27 kills, a 4.50 kills per set average, on a .464 hitting percentage while throwing in 21 digs and eight blocks. Ott tallied 22 kills of her own for a 3.67 kills per set average, hitting .429 with 12 digs and five blocks.

On Sunday, Wright State opened the afternoon with a 25-14 first set win and never looked back, adding 25-16 and 25-18 set wins as the match progressed, with the Raiders finishing the sweep hitting .352 as a group.

Martin led the way with a double-double effort of 12 kills and 16 digs, match highs in both categories, while Megan Alders added nine kills and Ott added eight of her own. Meyer passed out 29 of Wright State's 34 assists, with Jenny Morey collecting three of the Raiders' six service aces.

The Raiders controlled the net, finishing with a 14-6 blocking advantage, including a 12-3 margin through the first two sets. Aaliyah Byers notched eight blocks with Alders adding six to pace the net presence.
