GREEN BAY, Wisc. — The Wright State women's soccer program blanked Green Bay 1-0 in its conference opener on Thursday evening at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
The Raiders improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League with their second victory in a row, while Green Bay fell to 0-5-2 on the season and 0-1 in HL play.
Wright State was in control for the majority of the match, besting the hosts in total shots (14-9), shots on goal (6-4), and corner kicks (2-0). Lauren Borchert delivered the game-winning goal off feeds from Kaylin Helinski and Caitlin Burger in the 58th minute. She finished with a team-leading three shots, including two on goal. Addy Canter and Marcella Sizer added two shots apiece — one on frame — in the winning effort.
Goalkeeper Kiera Sarka tallied four saves en route to her second shutout performance of the 2023 campaign. Three of her four saves transpired in the second half, which included back-to-back stops at the 78-minute mark. The senior notched her final save in the 89th minute to seal the Raider victory.
WSU's back line held Green Bay to just four shots on goal, good for its second-lowest mark this season. Zara Graff anchored the Raider defense with 80 minutes of playing time. The Phoenix attack was limited to three total shots in the opening period before tacking on six more scoring opportunities in the second half.
Wright State will look to build on its win streak on Thursday, September 21, against Youngstown State at home.
