Men’s Soccer Falls to Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – The Wright State men's soccer team fell to Robert Morris 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The lone Raider goal came from Cole Werthmuller in the 80th minute. Wright State will return home to host Oakland on Saturday, October 19 at 3 p.m. Fans can keep up with the action in person with free admission or online through ESPN+ livestreaming or live stats.
The Raiders (5-6-2, 2-2-1 HL) ended the day with seven shots, three on target, to Robert Morris's (6-4-2, 3-1-1 HL) 12 shots, six on goal. The Raiders bested RMU in corner kicks 7-4.
Leading Wright State was Werthmuller with two shots, both on goal. Edwin Espinal-Elvir followed with two shots, one on target. Brian Burkett, Teun van der Donk, and Brock Pickett each recorded one shot. Senior goalkeeper Joel Shaw logged all 90 minutes, tallying three saves.
The Colonials held a 1-0 lead at the half, putting up seven shots to the Raider's two. The two Raider shots came from Burkett and van der Donk in the 21st and 23rd minutes. RMU added their goal in the 12th minute as John Paul Mbuthia found the back of the net with an assist from Lucas Barsoee. Shaw recorded saves in the 26th and 41st minutes.
The two teams matched each other with five shots each in the second half. RMU raised their advantage early, with a goal by Barsoee in the 50th minute. Espinal-Elvir added shots in the 57th and 64th minutes, and Pickett in the 66th. The Colonials followed, further raising their advantage to three, scoring in the 68th minute. Wertmuller added a shot in the 70th before finding the back of the net in the 80th minute. Pickett and Espinal-Elvir assisted in the shutout preventing goal.
