INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON — Wright State graduate outside hitter Sam Ott has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.
Ott recorded 37 total kills in Wright State's three Horizon League home sweeps last week, averaging 4.11 kills per set and reaching the 1,000 career kill mark in the process. Ott opened action with a 10-kill, eight dig effort on Tuesday against Northern Kentucky before turning in 15 kills on Friday against Cleveland State as she notched her 1,000th kill early in the second set of the sweep and capped the week with a 12-kill, 13-dig double-double on Saturday. Ott's 15 kills on Friday and 12 kills Saturday were both match highs. She added 23 digs, four blocks and a service ace to her final weekly stat line in just the nine sets played, and was nearly perfect on the back line, finishing with just one receiving error on 49 total attempts for a .980 receive percentage. Despite playing in just the nine sets, Ott had the third-best kills per set (4.11) and points per set (4.50) averages in the Horizon League for the week.
Â
Ott has now recorded double digit kills in 15 of 16 matches to date with five double-doubles so far on the season after she finished 2023 with seven double-double efforts for the season.
Wright State and Ott now prepare to hit the road in Horizon League play each of the next two weeks, first heading to Youngstown State this weekend before a visit to Milwaukee on October 18 and 19.
