Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sargent notches first win as three finish with double digit scoring nights

DAYTON – The Wright State men's basketball team saw a trio of players tally double figures on Wednesday night as the Raiders opened their home schedule with an 89-60 victory over Ohio Christian inside the Nutter Center as Clint Sargent recorded his first victory at the helm of the Raiders.

Sargent, who became the 10th head coach in program history back in March, saw Wright State (1-1) open the night slowly as both sides traded buckets before the Raiders pulled away from Ohio Christian (2-1) in the second half. Wright State wraps up a busy week on Saturday afternoon with a quick trip to take on regional foe Miami (OH) in a 1 p.m. tipoff.

Wright State grabbed the opening tip and scored on a jumper by Alex Huibregtse on the first possession and never trailed. The Raiders pushed the first half advantage up to 15 in the first six minutes, although the margin remained in the single digits for the majority of the first 20 minutes before Wright State went to the locker room up 43-38. The Raiders turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, jumping out to a 17-6 run in the first five minutes of the second stanza and never looking back.

Huibregtse tallied 14 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, ending the night shooting 8-of-11 overall while connecting on four three-pointers, adding five assists and a pair of steals. Brandon Noel finished a rebound shy of a double-double, collecting 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting while grabbing nine rebounds and filling his stat line with four blocks, two assists and a steal. Logan Woods was the final Raider in double figures, scoring all 12 of his points in the first half as he was 5-of-8 with three rebounds and three assists.

Six other Raiders all found the scoring column as well, with Jack Doumbia notching eight points while Drey Carter and Andrew Welage both finished with seven points. Keaton Norris and Michael Imariagbe both tallied six points, with Imariagbe grabbing nine rebounds as well.

Wright State ended the night shooting 58 percent overall (33-of-57) while hitting six three-pointers, four of which were in the second half, for a 35 percent mark (6-of-17). Ohio Christian shot 37 percent overall from the floor (22-of-59) and 33 percent (9-of-27) from deep, with the Raiders holding the visitors to a 2-of-12 mark from three-point range in the second half after Ohio Christian connected on seven first half three-pointers.

The Raiders had a 38-24 overall rebounding edge, pulling down 26 boards on the defensive glass alone, helping lead to 20 fast break points. Wright State forced Ohio Christian into 16 turnovers that resulted in 26 points off the takeaways, while the Raiders received 25 points from six players off the bench in the win.

Chapman Faulkner turned in 15 points to lead Ohio Christian, who also saw Cole Rammel finish in double figures with 13 points as Landon Brewer tallied eight points and seven rebounds for the visitors.
