Four Raiders See Double-Digit Scoring in 82-69 Loss to GCU

PHOENIX, Arizona – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Grand Canyon 82-69 on Wednesday afternoon. The Have Fayth Christmas Classic will continue tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET as the Raiders take on Georgia Southern. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats or the paid GCU Lopes livestream.
Wright State (2-9, 0-3 HL) finished shooting 39 percent from the floor, led by Ellie Magestro-Kennedy and Lauren Scott with five field goals each. Magestro-Kennedy's three shots from behind the arc were a team high, followed by two each from Scott and Makiya Miller, and one by Claire Henson.
Four Raiders saw double-figure scoring, as Scott matched her season high of 14 points, and Magestro-Kennedy set a personal best of 13 points. Miller followed with 11 points and Henson with ten. Chloe Chard Peloquin and Amaya Staton added six points for the Raiders, while Sagester tallied four points, all on the free throw line.
Staton had a team-leading six rebounds, followed by Henson and Magestro-Kennedy with four each. Brown led the team in assists (5), closely followed by Henson (4). The Raiders had eight steals, led by Scott with three, while Brown and Miller had two each and Henson one.
Wright State held a 20-18 advantage over the Lopes after the first quarter, highlighted by Chard Peloquin's six-to-nothing run, the best of either team in the quarter, giving WSU a 10-8 lead at the media timeout. Both teams sunk eight shots in the first, as the Raiders bested GCU in accuracy 57.1 to 40, going three-of-six from three.
The Lopes took a nine-point lead in in the second quarter, outscoring WSU 22-11 with a 60 percent field goal percentage, holding Wright State to shooting 25 percent from the floor. At the half, the Raiders were shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent on the line, led by Scott with eight points, followed by Chard Peloquin with six points.
Wright State put up a 36.4 field goal percentage in the second half, shooting 45.5 percent from three. Miller led the team with ten points in the final 20 minutes, going four-of-five from the floor and two-for-two from three. Magestro-Kennedy closely trailed with eight points in the second half, scoring all eight in the final quarter.
GCU (9-2) ended the day shooting 57.1 percent from the floor, 35.3 from three, and went four-of-six on the line. They were led by Laura Erikstrup's 20 points, followed by Tiarra Brown (18), Trinity San Antonio (17), and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas (12).
