Second half run leads Raiders past Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Down five points with just over 11 minutes to play, the Wright State men's basketball team rolled off a 21-2 scoring run over a five-minute stretch to take control of the afternoon as the Raiders grabbed an 85-78 road win at Northern Kentucky in Horizon League action.

Trey Calvin finished with a game-high 21 points, including 13 in the second half, while AJ Braun and Alex Huibregtse each finished with double-double performances. Braun tallied 13 points and 14 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season, while Huibregtse had 17 points and a career-high 10 assists. Brandon Noel (15 points) and Tanner Holden (13 points) also had double figure scoring games.

Wright State led for 17 minutes in the first half on the way to a 41-38 halftime lead over Northern Kentucky (11-12, 6-6 Horizon) and finished the night with the advantage for over 30 minutes in a game that featured five lead changes and three tied scores.

During the 21-2 second half run, the Raiders rolled off 17 straight points with scoring from four different players, going 6-of-9 in the stretch with a pair of three-pointers as they held Northern Kentucky to 0-of-6 with a trio of turnovers as Wright State led 75-61 with 5:29 to play. NKU responded with a run of its own, pulling within three points with 2:01 remaining, but the Raiders answered with six of the next seven points and forcing the hosts into three straight missed shots.

Wright State finished the win shooting 58 percent (33-of-57) from the floor, connecting on six three-pointers (6-22, 27 percent), including three triples from Huibregtse. The Raiders were 13-of-23 (57 percent) from the free throw stripe, connecting on 11-of-17 in the second half. Northern Kentucky was 27-of-66 (41 percent) overall and was 31 percent (8-of-26) from three-point range. The hosts were 16-of-22 from the free throw stipe.
