DAYTON – Wright State head men's basketball coach Clint Sargent has announced the addition of transfer Ben Southerland to join the Raider program.
Â
Southerland, a 6-7 forward from Cincinnati and Sycamore High School, joins the Raiders after spending the last two seasons at Liberty and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"We are excited to add Ben and his family to our program because of his character, worth ethic and competitive nature and feel he will be a great influence on our culture and locker room," Sargent said. "Ben comes to us with three years of eligibility remaining and a growing skill set that will only get better with time and development. We are eager to get him to campus and get to work."
Â
Southerland appeared in 26 games for Liberty last season after redshirting in the 2022-23 campaign, shooting 45.7 percent overall with a 33 percent clip from three-point range. He grabbed 39 rebounds, including 29 on the defensive glass. Southerland had a season-best nine points in February against Middle Tennessee and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds against Boyce in January.
Â
He prepped at Sycamore High School, averaging 17 points, six rebounds and 1.4 steals as a senior while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor to earn all-state first team honors. A 1,000-point scorer at Sycamore, Southerland added first team all-conference and all-district recognition as a junior, while he holds the Sycamore record for most three-pointers in a season, the single-game scoring record (41 points) and the record for free throws made in one season.
