CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – The Wright State women's soccer team fell short in their season opener to Illinois 6-0 on Thursday night.
The Raiders (0-1) will continue on the road, taking on Akron on Sunday, August 25 at 1:00 p.m.
Wright State ended the night with six shots, including three on goal. They were led by
Ainsley Terada's two shots on goal, a career high, followed by
Ruby Dunlevy with one shot on goal. Goalkeeper
Kiera Sarka recorded seven saves.
Sarka was the Raider's lone player to log 90 minutes.
Elise Canter had 79 minutes, followed by Pham adding 71 minutes. 23 total Raiders touched the field, including 10 newcomers.
The Fighting Illini (1-0) held an early advantage putting up two goals in the first half, scoring in the ninth and 11th minutes, with shots by Sarah Foley and Sarah Hiestand respectively.
All six of Wright State's shots came in the first half, as Dunlevy tallied the Raider's first shot in the fourth minute.
Mariella Hartmann and
Caitlin Burger followed with shots in the ninth minute. Terada recorded her first shot in the 24th minute and her second in the 33rd minute.
Kaylee Pham recorded the last shot for the Raiders in the 37th minute.
Illinois continued in the second, scoring in the 50th minute with a goal by Kennedy Berschel, the 62nd minute with a goal by Alyssa Weede, and the 75th minute with a goal by Lauren Seppi. The final goal of the match was scored by Ellen Persson in the 76th minute.
