Espinal-Elvir Scores First Collegiate Goal in Loss to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Wright State men's soccer team held a two-to-nothing lead at the half but fell short 3-2 to Bowling Green University Friday night.
Wright State (0-1-0) was the first to get on the board, as Edwin Espinal-Elvir scored his first collegiate goal in the 23rd minute with assists from Roman Kedgley and Gabe Gotting. Felix Ezekwuka followed, scoring on a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
Bowling Green (1-0-0) took the lead in the second half, as Trace Terry scored in the 49th minute, followed by an own goal in the 56th minute, and had the final goal of the night as Bennett Painter found the back of the net in the 84th minute.
The Raiders outshot the falcons 8-5 in the first half, but were bested 11-2 in the second. Of Wright State's 10 shots, four were on goal. Ezekwuka led the team with four shots, two on goal, followed by Pete Schneider's two shots. Espinal-Elvir and Henry Hutchison each recorded one shot on goal. Alesandro Malterer recorded four saves while allowing three goals.
Seven Raiders – Zakaria Amro, Felix Ezekwuka, Jack Jenkins, Kedgley, Marko Odorcic, and Brock Pickett – logged 90 minutes of action.
Wright State will play again on Thursday, August 29 at 5 p.m. hosting Lindenwood for the 2024 home opener. Fans can keep up with the action in-person with free admission or through live stats.
