Northern Kentucky Comes Back to Stun Raiders

DAYTON- The Wright State men's soccer team dropped a heart breaker to Northern Kentucky 1-2, Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Wright State (1-10-1, 1-4 HL) will continue its three-game home stand on Saturday, October 17, as Milwaukee makes the trip down to Dayton. First touch is slated for 7 p.m., and the first 50 fans at Alumni Field will receive a WSU Pepsi blanket.

The Raiders controlled the possession for the first 45 minutes, holding 61% of the possession. The match was physical, with seven total cards being shown, two of which came in the first half.

Wright State was served a red card in the 50th minute and played the final 40 minutes with 10 men.

Henry Hutchinson would break open the scoring and give the Raiders the lead in the 73rd minute. Maximilian Banfi dribbled the ball up the left wing and into the 18-yard box, then laid off a pass to Hutchinson, who sent a first-time shot past the Norse goalie and into the back of the net.

Northern Kentucky would score the equalizer in the 80th minute. Bennett Gerak took a free kick out on the left wing and sent a cross into the box that found the head of Steven Boaghe Braniste. The junior sent a header over the goalie and into the back of the net.

The Norse would complete their comeback and stun the Raiders, netting the game-winning goal with just 30 seconds on the clock. Gerak again sent a cross into the box, this time from open play. The cross found the chest of Ali Taleb and found its way into the back of the net.
