DAYTON – A pair of Raiders turned in double-digit kill performances but the Wright State volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Northern Kentucky on Tuesday night.
Wright State (15-8, 9-3 Horizon) remains in second place in the Horizon League standings, while Northern Kentucky (15-8, 11-1 Horizon) extended its lead to two games over the Raiders, with IU Indy moving into third place at 8-4 in HL action after a Tuesday win of its own. The Raiders are back in action this weekend on the road with matches Friday and Saturday at Robert Morris.
On Tuesday, the Raiders finished the night hitting just .140 as a group with 41 kills and 22 errors, while Northern Kentucky tallied a .216 hitting mark with 42 kills and 16 errors to go along with six service errors. The visitors took a tight opening set 27-25 before grabbing set wins of 25-21 and 25-16 to complete the night.
Katie Sowko notched another double-double as she paced Wright State with 11 kills and 10 digs, while
Reilly Zegunis also had double digit kills with 10 as she added four blocks for the Raiders.
Elena Dubuc and
Ella Seeger both added seven kills and
Taylor Bransfield chipped in five kills.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 28 of the 39 Wright State assists, while
Taygan Corstange finished with a match-high 23 kills.
Ava Hoying finished with 13 kills and Sydney Bray added 12 kills to lead Northern Kentucky, who also got 34 assists from Abbigail Pickard and 17 digs from Allison Risley in the road win.
