DAYTON/INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State volleyball program has been picked atop the 2025 Horizon League preseason coaches poll, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Raiders garnered 94 total points and six of the 10 first place votes in the poll, which the league's 10 head coaches voted on.
The Raiders have been selected at the top of the preseason poll in five of the last six seasons dating back to the COVID-altered Spring 2021 campaign.
Milwaukee was in second place with 86 points and Green Bay was picked third with 80 points as both teams also received a first-place vote. Cleveland State, who won last year's HL tournament, garnered 65 points for forth but also received a the final two first-place votes.
The bottom half of the poll was IU Indianapolis (62), Northern Kentucky (57), Purdue Fort Wayne (35), Oakland and RMU (26 points each) and Youngstown State (19).
The 2025 Raiders return four Horizon League award winners from last season, led by HL Setter of the Year
Lauren Yacobucci, who was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Midwest All-Region team and finished last season as the 2024 NCAA Division I statistical champion for assists per set with her 11.92 assists/set average. Yacobucci was joined on the HL first team with fellow returner
Reilly Zegunis, while
Haley Robinson and
Katie Sowko were each on the HL's all-freshmen team.
Wright State opens its 2025 season this weekend with three matches in Bowling Green, Kentucky as part of the WKU Invitational. The Raiders will take on host Western Kentucky and Drake on Friday before a Saturday meeting with Loyola Chicago. The match against Western Kentucky will be streamed on ESPN+.
