SOUTH BEND, IN- Freshman forward
Sammy Jadid scored his first collegiate goal Tuesday night as the Raiders fell to #21 Notre Dame by a score of 2-3.
Â
Wright State (0-7-1) will return home to Alumni Field on Saturday, September 27, as they welcome in conference foe Detroit Mercy. First touch is slated for 7 p.m. and fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items as part of the Raider Food Pantry drive.
Â
Notre Dame jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a Mitch Ferguson first-half hat-trick. The first goal would come in just the seventh minute as the senior stood over a free kick about 25 yards away from the net and fired a shot that found the back of the net. Ferguson's next two goals would come off of corner kicks as the ball found his feet in the middle of the box both times for easy tap-ins.
Â
Jadid would get the Raiders on the board in the 73
rd minute. The Freshman kept the ball in play on the left wing before dancing around multiple Notre Dame defenders, before sending a shot around the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Â
Wright State would get its second goal with just over a minute left in the match. The Raiders sent a cross into the box that was only cleared out to the edge of the 18-yard box, where
Edwin Espinal-Elvir was waiting and fired a half-volley that grazed a defender and ended up in the back of the net.
Â
In the box score, the Raiders fired 11 shots on the night but converted on both shots on target.
