INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON — Wright State junior outside hitter
Mya Ayro has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.
Ayro turned in back-to-back double-digit kill efforts as the Raiders took down Power 4 foe Cal and went toe-to-toe with No. 1 Nebraska at the Ameritas Players Challenge last weekend. Ayro had a match-best 14 kills on Friday against Nebraska, adding a pair of digs, before she tallied 22 kills against Cal, just three off her career high, to again lead all players in kills while just missing a double-double with nine digs and three blocks in the win. She finished the weekend with 36 kills and a 4.50 kills/set average, while her 84 total kills through two weeks are the second-most in the Horizon and her 4.10 kills/set average leads the Horizon.
Ayro and Wright State now return home to host the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational next weekend, with all matches played in the Nutter Center, marking the first time collegiate volleyball has been played in the Nutter Center since Wright State hosted the 1991 National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Raiders are set to face No. 9 Pitt on Friday, Sept. 12 before a matchup with Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 13 and a meeting against Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Tickets for the Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational are on sale now.
Wright State's three matches will all be streamed on ESPN+.
