INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State forward Kellen Pickett has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive week, the League office announced on Monday.
Â
Pickett turned in his second-straight 18-point performance on Thursday night as Wright State remained in first place with a home win over Youngstown State. The 18 points, which tied his career-best set last Sunday at Oakland, came with nine rebounds as he just missed his third-straight double-double. Pickett shot 50 percent from the floor and was 6-of-7 at the free throw stripe as he grabbed six of his nine rebounds on the defensive glass. He added two blocks and two assists to his 31-minute performance.Â
Â
Pickett has scored in 14 of 19 games in his freshman campaign, adding at least one rebound in 18 contests. In seven games since being inserted into the starting lineup, he is shooting 58 percent overall while averaging more than 28 minutes of action per contest.
Â
The weekly nod gives Pickett three top freshman selections, while fellow newcomer Michael Cooper has also been named the HL's top weekly freshman three times so far in the campaign.
Â
Wright State has won seven straight games for the first time since midway through the 2021-22 campaign, and continues its homestand with a pair of contests inside the Nutter Center this week. The Raiders welcome Cleveland State to town on Wednesday before a Saturday matchup with Northern Kentucky, with both games set for 7 p.m. tipoffs. Fans can follow the all the action several ways – on ESPN+, via live stats or by tuning in to the Wright State Radio Network – 101.5 FM 'The Fridge' and WING 1410 AM. Chris Collins and Jim Brown will have all the play-by-play action on the television and radio feeds.
