INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State forward Kellen Pickett has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the League office announced on Monday.
Â
Pickett tallied his first collegiate double-double against Milwaukee and averaged eight points last week as he helped Wright State to a 3-0 week in HL play. After opening the week with four points and seven rebounds against Oakland, Pickett went 5-of-7 from the floor with a three-pointer against Milwaukee on January 1 to open the calendar year with an 11-point, 10-rebound performance. He wrapped up the week with nine points and seven rebounds in Sunday's road win at IU Indy, finishing the week shooting 71.4 percent from the floor with the 8.0 points per game average and 8.0 rebounds per game mark, adding seven blocks – including four against IU Indy – two assists and a steal to his weekly stat line.
Â
Pickett has scored in 11 of 15 games in his freshman campaign, adding at least one rebound in 13 contests. In four games since being inserted into the starting lineup, he is shooting 67 percent overall while averaging more than 26 minutes of action per contest.
Â
This is the first freshman honor of the season for Pickett, while fellow newcomer Michael Cooper has been named the HL's top weekly freshman three times so far in the campaign.
Â
Wright State stays on the road for a pair of matchups in Michigan next weekend, first taking on Detroit Mercy on Friday night before a Sunday afternoon nationally televised ESPN2 contest at Oakland. Fans can follow the all the action several ways – on ESPN+ (Friday, Sunday), via live stats or by tuning in to the Wright State Radio Network – 101.5 FM 'The Fridge' and WING 1410 AM.
