INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON- The Wright State women's basketball team picked up a pair of Horizon League All-League honors, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Senior Lauren Scott earned the Sportsmanship Award, while fellow senior Breezie Williams was named to the All-League Second Team.
Â
Scott earns the sportsmanship award after being named a finalist a season ago. The Sportsmanship Award recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Sportsmanship is defined as behavior exhibited during competition by student-athletes based on values, respect, and integrity.
Â
"A league ambassador for leadership, loyalty, and commitment." Said Head Coach Kari Hoffman when asked about Scott. "She always does the right thing, competes the right way, and has a spirit that will always rise above the moment, whether that's picking an opposing player up or responding to refs the right way. She represents HL sportsmanship values every single day."
Â
Williams has started all 31 games for the Raiders. She leads the team with 385 points, averaging 12.4 per game, ranking sixth and ninth in the Horizon League, respectively. Williams has scored in double figures, a team high 17 times this season, and has finished with 20-plus eight times, which ranks fourth in the Horizon League. The senior also leads the Raiders in minutes played (934), assists (95), and steals (62), while finishing second on the team in rebounds (129).
Â
Williams has had multiple career milestones in the Green and Gold, like recording a new career-high 28 points on 11-13 shooting and a career best 5-5 from three-point range against Purdue Fort Wayne, surpassing the 1,000-career point mark against Northern Kentucky, and coming up one-rebound and one-steal short of a triple double at Florida Atlantic finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high nine steals.
Â
Scott, Williams, and the Raiders will open postseason play on the road Wednesday night at Youngstown State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Beeghly Center.
