Lauer named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – Wright State sophomore goalkeeper Leigha Lauer has been named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Lauer had a phenomenal week in between the posts for the Raiders, leading the team to an undefeated first week of the season (1-0-1). Lauer played all 180 minutes in net for the Raiders across their first two contests.
In Thursday's season opener at Southern Indiana, Lauer recorded her first shutout of the season with three saves, keeping the Raiders in the game and forcing a scoreless draw. The sophomore was pivotal once again in the Raiders' 2-1 win over Butler Sunday evening, setting new career-best marks in saves (10) and shots faced (20). Lauer has not allowed a goal from open play so far this season, with Butler's lone goal on Sunday coming from the penalty spot.
This is the first career weekly honor for Lauer after appearing in nine games as a freshman a season ago.
Lauer and the Raiders will remain at home as they welcome IU Pennsylvania to Alumni Field on Thursday, August 20. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m., and fans are encouraged to stop by the marketing table and spin the wheel for a chance to win Raider prizes.
