DAYTON – The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up opening weekend action on Saturday evening with a three-set loss to Marquette inside the Nutter Center.

Wright State (2-1) will host six games as part of the 2026 Tru by Hilton Beavercreek Invitational next weekend, with all four opponents facing each other in a round-robin format. Action gets underway on Thursday, September 3, with a neutral site match when Ball State and Western Kentucky face off at 6 p.m. Friday begins with another neutral site match between Dayton and Ball State, followed by Wright State and Western Kentucky facing off at 6 p.m. Match play continues Saturday with Western Kentucky facing Dayton at 1 p.m. before Wright State meets Ball State at 4 p.m. The excitement culminates on Sunday, with a crosstown rivalry matchup between Wright State and Dayton at 1 p.m.

Marquette controlled the opening set, hitting .483 while taking a 25-16 victory. Wright State battled throughout the second set and erased an early six-point deficit to pull within 21-20 late before the Golden Eagles held on for a 25-21 win.

The third set featured 14 lead changes and seven ties as neither side led by more than two points for much of the frame. Wright State held a 24-22 advantage and was two points away from extending the match, but Marquette scored the final four points of the night to complete the sweep with a 26-24 decision.

Mya Ayro led the Raiders with 16 kills while hitting .367. Abigail Knight added six kills, while Olivia Schmidt and Ella Seeger each recorded five kills. Reilly Zegunis chipped in four kills and Katie Sowko finished with three kills and eight digs.

Lauren Yacobucci directed the offense with 28 assists while adding three kills and a team-high 13 digs. Taygan Corstange collected 10 digs as Wright State placed two players in double figures defensively.

Emma Parks paced Marquette with 13 kills while hitting .522. Carson Tyler added 12 kills and Tani Juric recorded nine kills as the Golden Eagles placed three players in double figures offensively. Luanna Markus finished with 35 assists in the victory.
