LOUISVILLE, KY – The Wright State women's soccer team came up short Thursday night on the road, falling 2-1 to Bellarmine.

Wright State (2-4-1) returns home Sunday, September 13, to host Indiana State at Alumni Field. First touch is slated for 1 p.m.

Bellarmine opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Campbell Tippey found the back of the net off an assist from Makenzie Simpson. The Knights added a second goal just before halftime as Brooklyn Donohue converted in the 45th minute following a save by Leigha Lauer to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

The Raiders pushed forward in the second half and nearly cut into the deficit midway through the period. Wright State earned a penalty kick in the 67th minute, but the opportunity went unanswered.

Wright State broke through in the 77th minute when Olivia Stroud played a ball to Caitlin Burger, who buried her fourth goal of the season to trim the deficit to one.

The Raiders continued to apply pressure over the final 15 minutes, generating several scoring chances, including a saved shot from Chloe Dunford in the 83rd minute, but were unable to find the equalizer.

Leigha Lauer recorded nine saves in net for the Raiders while facing 20 Bellarmine shots.

In the box score, Wright State trailed Bellarmine in shots (20-7) and shots on goal (11-2). The Raiders held a slight edge in possession percentage (55-45) while Bellarmine led in corner kick opportunities (9-7).
