Kamal Raphael enters his Second season with the Wright State men's soccer program as an assistant coach. Raphael joined Wright State after a solid playing career at Seattle University and has acquired valuable experience in the coaching ranks.
In his first season with the Raiders, Raphael helped guide the Raiders to eight victories and a goals against average of 1.61. Raphael was involved in coaching Carl Ebers, who was named the 2007 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year.
Raphael started his coaching career with the Catalyst Soccer Organization in California. While with the CSO, he was a part of the daily training of the players and organization of CSO camps. The CSO works with the local area players by coordinated camps and mentoring athletes.
Raphael was also the head coach of the boys U-11 Monterey County Cougars squad that captured a league championship and the California State Cup Championship. Monterey County led the league in scoring that season with 51 goals and posted a goals against average of 0.20 while going undefeated. Raphael spent two seasons with the Monterey County program before moving on to Wright State.
Raphael is also active in the camp scene as he has worked with the Cal-Poly High School Elite camp in San Luis Obispo, CA. He earned his California Youth Soccer Associate "F" license in 2005.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Raphael enjoyed a successful playing career at Seattle University. In three seasons with the Redhawks, Raphael helped the team to the 1997 NAIA National Championship and a 25-1-2 record. the 1997 squad set school records for most wins (25), most shutouts (13) and consecutive wins (12). He garnered all-tournament honors at the Seattle University Performance Radiator Cup and was selected as the NAIA National Player of the Week as a senior at SU.
He is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree in Teledramatic Arts and Technology with an emphasis in Documentary directing from Cal-State Monterey Bay.
