Josh Steinbach may be just in his second season on the Raider coaching staff this season, but he brings to Wright State a wealth of coaching experience on the high school, club and collegiate levels.
Steinbach came to WSU after two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. He was involved in many aspects of the Bearcat program, including recruiting, camps, video and team travel. During his tenure, UC posted a record of 48-17, including a mark of 27-6 in 2003. The 2003 squad won a share of the Conference USA title, made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament and was nationally-ranked for the first time in school history, rising to as high as #20 in the weekly rankings.
Along with his duties at Cincinnati, Steinbach was also the head coach of Team Z as the 2004 squad placed 10th at the USAV Junior National Championships. He also served as the faculty advisor for the women's club team at UC.
Steinbach came to Cincinnati after spending two years with the nationally-ranked Penn State volleyball program. Along with fulfilling a variety of duties such as assisting with match preparation and strategy, he also made his mark at the club level, serving as head coach and director of the Lions Pride Volleyball Club for a year and a half.
Prior to Penn State, Steinbach spent six years in California as a coach on the college, high school and club levels. His first head coaching job was at Santa Fe Christian High School during the 2000 season. Steinbach moved to the high school ranks after nearly two years as an assistant at San Diego Mesa Community College, where he also played two years of volleyball as an undergrad. For two seasons, he was a women's assistant coach and also spent a year as a men's assistant.
From 1995-2000, Steinbach was the head coach of the Sunwest and North County Volleyball Clubs and from 1997-1999, he was the head junior varsity coach at The Bishop's School.
Steinbach received his bachelor's degree in English from Penn State in 2002. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, six-year-old Bennett and one-year-old Carson.
