Nick Phillips joined Wright State in September 2019 as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and oversees the media relations efforts for the Raiders' 14 NCAA Division I programs.
He currently serves the primary contact for the Raider men's basketball, volleyball, golf, women's bowling and cross country/track & field programs.
Since joining the Raiders, Phillips has spearheaded communications efforts for several Wright State historical firsts, including the department's first NCAA at-large bid (Volleyball, 2019) as well as the first NCAA wins in program history for Volleyball (2020 NCAA), Women's Basketball (2021 NCAA) and Men's Basketball (2022 NCAA), along with numerous Horizon League championships and accolades. Phillips came to Wright State after nearly two years at the American Athletic Conference as the Assistant Director of Communications for Digital & Social Media, where he administered the daily operation of The American's website and the conference's expansive social media presence while coordinating distribution of video content across all social media channels. Before The American, Phillips served as Director of Athletic Media Relations at the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he oversaw media operations for the Warhawks' 15 NCAA Division I programs while working primarily with the football and baseball programs. Phillips also served as Director of Athletic Media Communications at the University of North Carolina Asheville, where he served as the primary media contact for 12 of the Bulldogs' 16 programs over the course of his tenure. He also oversaw all video efforts for the UNC Asheville department, establishing new highs for video streaming and nearly doubling the department's social media presence.
Phillips began his career as Sports Information Director at Louisiana State University Eunice, where he was hired as the institution's first full-time athletics media relations professional and worked with two national championship teams (Softball, 2013 and 2014) and a national runner-up (Baseball, 2013) program. He garnered attention for four NJCAA All-American softball players, three NJCAA All-American baseball players and four Major League Draft selections, along with numerous All-Region performers across all LSU Eunice athletic programs while creating the video and social media platforms at the school.
An active member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), Phillips serves on the CSC Mentorship Committee and has presented at three national conventions (2018: It's More Than a #Hashtag; 2019: Creating One Voice on Social Media; 2021: Working with Small Staffs).
A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Phillips is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication with concentrations in broadcasting and journalism.
