
Volleyball Falls to Virginia 3-0

The Wright State volleyball team dropped their second match in the Jefferson Cup Tournament to host Virginia in three games Saturday afternoon. The Raiders fell to the Cavaliers 30-27, 30-22, 30-21 at Virginia's Memorial Gym.
In game one the Raiders came out with a quick attack and kept the game in manageable range, closing the gap to 28-25 before trading points with UVA to drop the match. In game one the Raiders recorded 17 kills to Virginia's 13, but the Raiders committed 12 attack errors.
In game two the Raiders took an early 6-4 lead after an Alisha Kimbro service ace and the game was knotted at seven after an attacking error from the Cavaliers. The Raiders would keep the second game within two points until a four-point rally for Virginia made the score 22-16 and UVA would again trade points with the Raiders and take game two after hitting .240 to WSU's .116.
The Raiders pressured Virginia in the third game as WSU held a 16-15 lead when Emily Perilli sent her service into the net. The Raiders would then hit a dry spell and watch Virginia score the next nine points to take control of the game. In the game, the Cavaliers used an almost flawless attack to defeat the Raiders as UVA posted an attacking percentage of .436.
Senior outside hitter Jenny Schultz led the Raider attack with 12 kills and an attacking percentage of .417. Sarah Poling had 16 digs while junior setter Lindsey Frank tallied 33 assists.
The Raiders, now 1-4 on the season, will square off with Georgetown in their final match of the Jefferson Cup Tournament at 5:00 Saturday evening.
