The Wright State men's soccer team dropped their seventh straight match on Friday evening to Green Bay, 2-1. The Raiders surrendered the game-winning tally with only 14 seconds left in the match, but ended their four-match scoreless streak in the process.
The Raiders and Phoenix played the first half in a scoreless tie, with Green Bay holding a slight edge in shots (5-4), as WSU keeper Tebias Mason made two saves in the half.
In the second half, Green Bay got the scoring started in the 66th minute when Tosaint Ricketts took a one-touch pass from Francois Basty to put UWGB ahead 1-0.
The Raiders would claw their way back into the match in the 88th minute when Adam Harp sent a long throw in towards the net. The ball found the head of Roger Downing, who directed it into the back of the net to tie the contest.
The goal ended a 478 minute scoreless drought for the Raiders and looked to extend the match into overtime.
Green Bay had other ideas, however, as Ricketts netted the match winning tally with only 14 seconds remaining on the clock. Ricketts sent the shot on net from 30 yards out, sneaking it just inside the left post.
In the match, Green Bay held the edge in shots (19-10), shots on-goal (6-1) and corner kicks (6-4). The Raiders again looked to Mason, who made four saves in the match, and three Raiders recorded two shots apiece in the match.
The Green and Gold fall to 2-8 overall this season and are now 0-1 in Horizon League play. WSU will host Milwaukee on Sunday, October 7, starting at 3:30 at Alumni Field.
