The Wright State volleyball team battled League-leading Milwaukee close most of the night, but came out on the short end against the Panthers Friday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, dropping a 30-23, 30-24, 27-30, 30-18 decision.
Game one was tied 12 times and had five lead changes until the Panthers snapped a 15-15 deadlock with five straight points. The Raiders closed to within two twice, but Milwaukee pulled away by scoring eight of the final 12 points.
The second game was tied at 18 following an Alisha Kimbro kill and WSU trailed just 23-22 after an Tina Paunicka ace, but again Milwaukee pulled away late, tallying seven of the last nine points.
Wright State then led most of the way in game three until the Panthers scored six unanswered to tie the game at 24. After the two teams exchanged a point, the Raiders went in front to stay at 28-25 on a service error, a block from Samantha Connor and Tara Geegan and a ball handling error.
A Geegan kill drew WSU to within one at 13-12 in game four, but Milwaukee gradually pulled away from there, using a 6-0 run to go up 25-15.
Milwaukee outhit the Raiders .188-.140, held a 65-53 kill advantage and had a 13-3 edge in aces.
Kimbro posted a double-double of 25 kills and 15 digs to lead Wright State, while Lindsey Frank dished out 42 assists and added 14 kills. Libero Lexi Leonhard chipped in 20 digs.
Jamie Gabrielsen paced Milwaukee (24-2, 14-1 Horizon) with a double-double of 21 kills and 13 digs while Leanne Felsing recorded a triple-double of 11 kills, 14 digs and 29 assists.
Wright State, now 13-16 overall and 9-6 in the Horizon League, closes out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 home match with Green Bay.
