After being shutout in the opener 4-0, the offense for the Wright State softball team came alive in the second game, but it wasn't enough as Green Bay completed the sweep in Horizon League action Saturday afternoon at Phoenix Field with a 9-8 win in nine innings.
Green Bay scored all four of its runs in the first game in the third and Anna Bluemel made that stand up the rest of the way as she limited the Raiders to five hits, two coming from Michelle Logan, with eight strikeouts. The Phoenix then looked to be in control for the sweep early in game two, scoring three times in the second.
Wright State, though, would tie the game an inning later as singles from Dana Boehmer and Malerie Klingler would set the stage for Kristen Bradshaw, who homered to left center, her fifth of the season, to drive in three.
The Phoenix went back in front with single runs in the third and fourth and it stayed that way until WSU again evened the score at 5-5 with two in the sixth. With two out, Logan singled to right field and after advancing to second, scored on Bradshaw's double to left. Jherica Williams followed with a triple to right center to plate Bradshaw and tie the game.
It stayed that way until the eighth when Wright State took its first lead of the day with three runs. With two outs and Jacqueline Macy, who had singled, on second, Bradshaw kept the inning alive with an infield hit and Williams knocked both in with a double to left. Williams later moved up to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error off the bat of Jamie Perkins.
The Raiders looked to add more as Allison Cox followed with a double to left center, but a fly out ended the inning.
That turned out to be key as the Phoenix came right back with three of its own in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game again, including a two-run home run from Vanessa Lefan and a two-out single from Dana Brockman that, along with a Raider error, resulted in the third run.
Green Bay (12-15, 4-5 Horizon) pulled out the win an inning later as, again with two outs, singles by Amanda Margelofsky and Lefan followed by a Jenny Rehfeldt double to left center produced the winning run.
Bradshaw went three-for-five with three runs scored and four RBI in the second game for the Raiders while Williams added two hits and three RBI.
Wright State, now 16-25 overall and 3-6 in the Horizon League, closed out the series with Green Bay Sunday with a single game at noon Dayton time.
